Amazing smells from old books, But how?

Just think that in your life do you smell any old books? If you that you will feel good smell on it.But you did not think that why the smell comes, If you think that please comment.

Okay, Let see why this happens.....

First you should know that which materialis used to prepare a paper in the books. The papers are made by woods.

In the last year over 30 million trees cut for prepared book of papers according to a research by the university of Michigam.

So this is why the paper contain some chemical components which are in the tree. Such as Lignin an Cellulose. These two components not only make  the paper more strong but also give the smell to the paper.

But how?

These components(Lignin and Cellulose) called as Organic components. And the Lignin component help the tress to grow over 6 feet. These Lignin component easily react with oxygen and decrease the stability of the papers.

This is the reason the old boos color become yellow. Heat and sunlight breaks the organic components of the Old papers(yellow color paper) and become volatile organic components(VOC). Volatile organic components means the components which is easily evaporate in the room temperature.

The VOC change into toluene, ethyl hexanol, vanillin, ethyl benzene, benzaldehyde. These each components contain different smells. So the smell is coming from these mixed smells.

# Rare books and rare newspapers are stored in the museum. Because to protect from rection with sunlight and heat
